What’s the role?

We are looking for a Senior Product Researcher who can work independently to develop and execute research solutions for widely-scoped problem spaces and deliver strategic impact. Your work influences product decision-making by connecting the dots between macro forces, customer needs, and Etsy’s business goals. You’ll work closely with product managers, designers, engineers, and alongside other researchers and data scientists to deliver insights that will craft the future of human commerce on Etsy.

You work well with others, and have proven instincts about when to hold the line on methodological rigor, and when to adapt to the changing demands of a project. Most importantly, you approach your work with a genuine sense of curiosity and empathy, and you’re willing to challenge conventional wisdom to find the right answer!

This is a full-time position reporting to the Product Research Manager, Seller Services group. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.

For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States. Candidates living within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office Hub or in the San Francisco Bay Area may be the first to be considered. For candidates within commutable distance, Etsy requires in-office attendance once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. • Available in 43 countries, Etsy Payments enables buyers and sellers to transact in 19 currencies and offers 12 different methods to pay for items on our site. 

What does the day-to-day look like?

• Partner with team members to guide product development and refinement, drawing on expertise in user research and UX standards

• Conduct remote, on-site, and in-field (as needed) user research studies with Etsy buyers and sellers

• Independently create strong deliverables with clear insights, storytelling, and actionable strategic recommendations to encourage marketplace health and drive Etsy’s business goals

• Partner with other insights teams (Market Research, Quantitative Research, Data Science, etc.) to triangulate insights and synthesize findings & recommendations

• Proactively contribute to the wider Research Team through skill-sharing and/or process improvement

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

• Demonstrating an in-depth understanding of a range of research approaches, balancing speed and precision, and a deep understanding of modern trends in Web and app design

• High comfort level building relationships across the business and co-creating strategies that consider customer and business implications

• Experience leading research at different parts of the product development process, from discovery to delivery

• Engaging storyteller and clear communicator, with the ability to hold your own in a meeting and persuade others to take action through a customer-centric lens

• Ambitious, meticulous, and able to balance multiple projects at a time

• Passionate about learning and problem solving that enables innovative approaches to find solutions.

• Familiarity with payments, checkout, digital wallet a plus
