SENIOR DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT AND MARKETING

Heritage Community Initiatives - a nonprofit that for forty years has been committed to positively impacting socioeconomic mobility - has doubled in growth over the last five years. The organization is now searching for a seasoned Development and Marketing professional to play a pivotal role in this positive trajectory as Heritage approaches a half century of service.

POSITION SUMMARY The Senior Director of Development and Marketing, reporting directly to the President and CEO, will be responsible for the strategic direction, design, and implementation of comprehensive development and marketing campaigns that will enable the organization to increase revenue generation while enhancing brand awareness. The successful candidate will be a creative leader with extensive experience in donor identification, solicitation models and funding models for capital, as well as expertise in targeted marketing campaigns.

RESPONSIBILITIES (include but not limited to)

  • Responsible for assisting President and CEO in developing a comprehensive development and
marketing strategy for the organization
  • Lead the implementation and management of the development and marketing plans
  • Establish and implement a full donor identification/lead generation process to include
appropriate outreach plans for all target audiences
  • Act as liaison to, and provide oversight of, the organization's marketing communications
agencies of record
  • Work with the Senior Management Team to establish annual giving goals and builds strategic and
tactical plans for achieving these goals
  • Develop a coordinated matrix of communication and solicitation strategies involving email, direct
mail, phone-mail, special events personal visitation and volunteer engagement, all focused on shaping a sustainable tradition of annual support
  • Identify pools of constituents as likely, annual, major, planned giving or major gift prospects
and/or suspects
  • Oversee the maintenance of the organization's donor database
  • Advise CEO and Senior Management Team on gift capacity of prospective donors and recommend
strategies for engaging them with Heritage
  • Create clear, concise, and well-written fundraising project summaries, funding proposals,
stewardship reports and other written materials for internal and external audiences
  • Supervise Development and Marketing team
  • Demonstrate a cooperative and collaborative approach to decision-making and problem solving
  • Act as a coach and mentor to others to improve performance and foster a spirit of teamwork
  • Demonstrate an innovative approach and willingness to take risk in creating change to meet
anticipated needs
  • Assume responsibility for own professional growth and development by keeping abreast of
current trends and developments through continuing education, networking, professional associations, and publications/journals
  • Demonstrate knowledge of business correspondence, marketing materials and reports, data
management and interpretation
  • Write solicitation letters, acknowledgements and gift recognition correspondence
  • Utilize data to establish regular benchmarks for monitoring progress
  • Organize information for effective presentation in publications, web sites, and other media
  • Organize and carry out events to promote the company to benefactors and local communities
  • Act courteous and respectful to donors, board members, personnel, clients and visitors
  • Promote positive customer relations with visitors, employees and others coming in contact with
the Foundation
  • Develop and produce publications, brochures, and news releases to define company identity to
the employees, the customers, and the broader community
  • Conduct research, develop content, and create effective presentations as assigned
  • Manage the creating, editing and publishing of internal and external communications
  • Manage and helps to maintain organization websites as assigned
  • Partner with Senior Management Team in carrying on special projects, events and organizational
sponsored functions
  • Perform other management support functions for Senior Management Team as may be assigned
by President

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor's degree preferred. At least five years of increasingly responsible experience in non-
profit fund raising
  • Documented/demonstrated success at working with boards, government agencies, volunteers,
donors, and general public
  • Solid understanding of development process, how development research contributes to it, and
the information sources used in such research;
  • Strong research, writing, problem solving and interpersonal skills;
  • Self-starter with ability to act independently within highly collaborative and collegial
atmosphere;
  • Demonstrated ability to raise funds through annual giving, special events and related techniques;
  • Maturity and discretion in working with confidential information;
  • Excellent oral, written, presentation skills;
  • Demonstrated people and communication management skills; ability to motivate staff and
volunteers;
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively, both individually and organizationally
  • A commitment to professional ethics and the ability to interact with diverse constituencies.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary
  • Must possess valid PA driver's license and access to auto insurance
  • PA Act 33/34 clearances required
